Yay! My Kak Uji and Kak Nita's mini box sets are finally here. I had ordered these two mini box sets a while back and had almost given up hope of getting them. I do not know what the problem was but the music shop where I bought the box sets from really took their own sweet time to get them. I could have easily downloaded everything from the Internet but these two singers are really special to me. I did not have much choice but to wait patiently for the highly-anticipated phone call to inform me that the CDs had finally arrived. These two singers are totally the opposite of each other. Anita Sarawak was definitely more flamboyant with her over-the-top costumes and outrageous showmanship while Uji Rashid was much more demure in her mannerism and personal style. I grew up listening to their songs on the radio and waited for their appearances on television. Being a Singaporean, Anita appeared much less frequently on Malaysian television compared to Uji Rashid. I still remember a piece of news reporting how she was paid a large sum of money just to lip-sync a song on Malaysian TV station. On that show, she appeared wearing a t-shirt printed with Superman logo and a pair of tight pants. She performed 'Take What You Find' which was taken from her latest English album at that time. Uji Rashid was a much more familiar face to the Malaysian audience and at one time, was even dubbed the 'Malaysian sweetheart'. Comparing the two of them would be equivalent to comparing oranges and apples. Each one is special in her own way but both have filled my younger days with precious memories.
p/s Ahh, I'm going to have a wonderful time listening to these CDs and going down memory lane...
